Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Whitstone School offers our students a superb opportunity to do something different, get out and explore, volunteer within our community and take up a new hobby. Our expeditions run over three weekends; a training weekend on the Mendips, a practice expedition on the Dorset Coast and a final assessed expedition on the Quantocks. Previous participants in the award regard these weekends as being great fun and a special opportunity to gain independence and confidence in the outdoors.
For many students the highlight of the award is the series of expeditions that we run each summer, but there is much more to the DofE than just the expeditions. In order to gain your DofE Bronze award you need to complete a minimum of three months of activities. These fall into the categories of Physical Recreation, Volunteering, Skills and Expedition.
