Inspirational Trip to the Guardian
Year 11 English students travelled to London in November to experience life in a professional newsroom.
The 27 students researched, wrote and edited stories in the surroundings of The Guardian newspaper’s headquarters in Kings Cross – under the watchful eye of professional journalists.
Working in teams and using InDesign software, the students sourced pictures, chose layouts and proofread to tight deadlines, creating mini-newspapers over the course of the day.
Each team was led by a main student editor who was responsible for guiding the overall direction of their newspaper and assigning reporters to work on different sections. The students worked incredibly hard, collaborated wonderfully, and got a flavour of the fast-paced world of international media production.
Mr Lappin-Cook said, “The students were simply amazing and had a brilliant day. Perhaps these were their first steps towards becoming media moguls.”
